DESIGNDUO

BIO

Based in Los Angeles, the award-winning design team of Gerry Hariton and Vicki Baral (aka the Designduo) provides Production Design and Consulting services for Theatre, Television, Commercials, Industrials, Trade Shows, Concert Tours, and Cruise Ships.

While they have proven themselves equally adept at realistic interiors, musicals, and surreal fantasy worlds, their multifaceted background offers a fresh, unconventional approach for each new project; combining traditional scenic techniques with cutting-edge media technologies. Recent work has focused on video mapping onto kinetic scenic environments.

For the past seventeen years, they have served as principal designers for the theatrical productions on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and their designs can currently be seen on all 26 ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet, which include the largest and most technologically advanced ships in the world. Their work as theatre consultants has defined the theatrical technology on the three most recent classes of ships for Royal Caribbean, and their Production Designs continue to set the standard for entertainment in the cruise industry. A notable achievement, on the Quantum Class of ships, is their consulting work with 5+Design on a transformative performance venue called Two70 which features the Vistarama™, a Designduo concept employing 18 video projectors.

Among their Broadway theatrical credits are Mail, Raggedy Ann, Fatal Attraction, and A Sense of Humor. Off-Broadway productions include Harry Chapin: Lies and Legends and Steven Berkoff's Greek. For their countless Los Angeles productions, they are recipients of five L.A. Drama Critics Circle awards, nineteen Dramalogue awards, and the L.A. Weekly Career Achievement Award.

In the world of Television, their work has been presented on CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, FOX, Showtime, The Disney Channel, and the BBC, including their three-year tenure as Production Designers for the Miss Universe Pageant. They have been honored with an EMMY nomination for The Wild West Showdown and an Art Director Guild nomination for Miss Universe. They received two consecutive EMMY nominations for their set for the NBC show The Other Half.
